If you watched the video, thank you for watching my point of view that showcases the power of faith through this unique lens in the positive light of films!
Allow me to expound on my point-of-view, INSANE FAITH - the Schizofilmic POV (point of view).
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen ." [Hebrews 11:1]
What would the world look like to me through a unique lens of faith and schizophrenia?
I admire schizophrenics because whether they know it or not, their disease causes them to have faith as they can see something that isn't there and react towards it as though it exists yet live real in the moment with it under imaginary situations.
In contrast, "The nightmare of schizophrenia is not knowing what's real. Imagine… if you had suddenly learned that the people and the places… and the moments most valuable to you… were not gone, not dead, but worst had never been. What kind of hectic would that be." - Dr. Rosen
But on the other hand, "Then, I look at him and I force myself to see the man that I married and he becomes that man. He's transformed into someone that I love. And I'm transformed into someone who loves him." - Alicia
With that said, schizophrenics' have a beautiful mind, they can see things that don't exist and behave towards it as though its real, that's unconscious faith (whether they know it of not) that was brought out of the disease as believing makes it possible and faith makes it real. The disease schizophrenia is setting up the person to put their faith in something beyond their self that will eventually lead them to seek healing apart from needs like it did for John Nash.
Out of this inspiration came the name schizofilmic, or so I call this insane perspective of faith.
Schizofilmic - a film buff who hears voices and sees people through a box, who has been certified Creatively-Insane and insanely-creative in suffering from mental disturbances that you've learned suffering can be entertaining through the art of watching movies as you create characters from out of your pinned-up emotions and personalities to help cope. You've discovered how watching a movie often is a trance experience (focused concentration), through metaphors, messages in films address the unconscious and by-pass the conscious mind; for one, calming film scene to create a safe place. As a tool of deepening focused concentration, can often be used to guide people to a safe place of their choice. Many peaceful movie scenes can serve well in this process. People “step” into their safe place by “stepping” into the movie screen, on which the calming, safe place appears. Therefore it developed into a dedication of you wanting to take away the stigma of depression and suicidal ideations through creative expression over self-destruction; to cope with your pain and change it into passion. That's Creative activism: take your broken heart, make it into art and create characters out of your what was meant to harm you as you give them a voice in stories.
Then I took it further, tying in the name Schizofilmene.
Schizofilmene - a person affected by schizofilmia
And with that, Schizofilmia.
Schizofilmia - a long-term movie mentality of a type involving a renewal in the relation between spirit, thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to faithy perception, abnormal actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into film reentry, character visualization, fantasy and imagination, and a sense of meditation. The visual hallucinations are divine visionary gifts to set one out on a vision quest in the fulfillment of one's destiny. Whereas, the auditory hallucinations (“hearing voices”) are learning from your inner-guide to know what you should or shouldn't do.
Now do you not only see how this unique perspective of film and faith go hand in hand, but also how someone could learn to find the good in a disease and turn it into good.
So I am Schizofilmic.
As I watch movies differenly from others as any life coach would call it, “Film Re-entry,” In trance, enter the story of a movie in a certain scene as a specific character, or in relation to a character that means the most to you. Watching a movie often is a trance experience (focused concentration), through metaphors, messages in films address the unconscious and by-pass the conscious mind; for one, calming film scene to create a safe place. Then you let your own story unfold with the guidance of a life coach. Frequently, unconscious material gets revealed. Try character strength/virtue spotting for “Skill Mastery” - Attributes of film character. Here's another one in trance, you are guided to “become’” a character who modeled desired behaviors and skills. This is a way to help you acquire the film character’s attributes. Try watching a calming film scene to create a safe place. Final one as a tool of deepening trance, the life coach often guide you to a safe place of your choice. Many peaceful movie scenes can serve well in this process. You “step” into your safe place by “stepping” into the movie screen, on which the calming, safe place appears. Try watching the characters as inner parts, like an Inner Guide.
As I see the media fitting into God’s kingdom as media shapes our lives because where the mind goes the man follows and through the hegemonic control that results when ownership is concentrated in the hands of a few major players. Carey Lewis from AMTC, Inc. couldn't have put it any better when she said in her devotional titled 'Power (Pat 7, Conclusion: Star Power) when she said, "I believe all power comes from one of two sources: God or Satan. It's a frightening thought, but one that must be considered by actors, models, and talent for Christ. Your enemy is not dark stars (Genesis 1:16 & Isaiah 8:21-22), networks, programmers, or media moguls. It's the prince of the air. But the King of truth has issued an overriding decree: He will reap where He did not sow. He did not sow this worldwide web, but He will reap within it. The harvest field is media, and God's stars have been called to shine His light within it. To help those who are lost. 'To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me' (Acts 26:18). That's star power, and His cast includes actors, models, and talent for Christ. 'The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it' (John 1:5)." And we each have a part to play in either being the person who plants, waters, or harvest in the field to reap media for God's Kingdom.
As my heart is towards teaching through movies, particularly the fatherless because when you teach your son, you teach your son's son in a way to combat loneliness, redeem the fatherless and give the at-risk a mentor. That I would like to call, FATHERINGflix. Fathering Flix is a metaphor, meaning two different things from the perspective of a mentor and mentee: a mentor fathering a mentee, or a mentor being called a father. In other words, he is being mentored and turns around to mentor others, Which asks the question, "Who is Flix?" And Flix can be anyone who relates to the story that is being told. To add, Father Flix is commissioned to go into the darkest world, the mind. As we are an organization that reaches out to provide mentoring through movies to the misfits, outcasts, rebels, troublemakers, broken, lonely, and oppressed; to show them an alternative ending for whatever hand life has dealt them. Fathering like the Father requires that we do the same - give ourselves to our or the children that's been placed in our circle of influence.
As from my own experience; to own a father is like owning a dragon, though they look like they exist for some; to others they appear as non-existing. For an example, Donald Miller from the book, 'To Own A Dragon' puts is this way. "I bring this up about a father, or not having a father, I feel as though when we think some thoughts about a father it feels as though I am thinking about a dragon. For me a father is nothing more than a character in a fairy tale. And I know fathers are not like dragons in that father's actually exist, but I don't remember feeling that a father existed for me. I know they are real people. I have seen on TV, and sliding their arms around their women in grocery stores, and I have seen them in the malls and in coffee shops, but these characters in other people's stories, and I never stopped to question why one of these characters wasn't living in our house. I don't say this out of self-pity, because in a way I don't miss having a father any more than I miss having a dragon. But in another way, I find myself wondering if I missed out on something valuable." Therefore I know that a good father will not only provide for their children's physical necessities but also their emotional and spiritual necessities.
